15 things CHS-NAU politics have taught me by Augustine Faith

15 things CHS-NAU politics/leadership have taught me after 4 years:
1. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. The wearer knows that underneath that crown are sharp piercing thorns that no one else can see or feel.
2. If you have not been there you are always at liberty to criticize and hate. Critics always know what to do to make it better but only get it done with there mouths.
3. A leader is supposed to be a good listener but choose the best suggestion for the good of everyone. It is good to have advisers but be quick to discern when they are getting selfish.
4. Do not make decisions when you are angry or when everyone is shouting and saying the same thing. Stop take a break and follow your heart.
5. Remember you are not everyone's best choice and you cannot please everyone. Don't be afraid of anything besides you are the majority's best choice.
6. Things MUST definitely get sore and your leadership boat may rock and head for the rocks you are the captain you just steer in the other direction having the interest of the led in mind.
7. Your opinion is not always the best, try and carry everyone along especially in the decision making process.
8. 'The executives did not vote the executives' but wen we come together those sentiments should be dropped at the doorsteps and we all focus on achieving our specific objectives which forms parts of our collective objectives. As you focus on doing this and I am doing that, we end up doing it together.
9. Public funds can never be satisfying. Its best you keep a clear record that results from a clear conscience and no accusation whatsoever can buckle your knees.
10. When you feel like giving up, go back to your mission statement. Talk to friends that are you vision sustainers and get motivated again to get back on your feet.
11. Always try to speak the truth because lying is a very difficult task n when you get caught you lose your integrity no matter how much you explain
12. Respect authority over you and try to speak well of them because the people you are leading are watching and listening. Respect they say is reciprocal.
12. When any member of the executives make a mistake do not blow up the mistake and try to exonerate yourself. If you do that you are discrediting yourself and your loyalty is questionable.
13. Beware of praise singers and lip servicers they only make you feel momentarily elated but dine with your enemies afterwards.
14. Remember you are not the boss but the servant. Try to serve and not to be served.
15. When you think you are standing alone, always remember that the Holy Spirit will always be around you and if you are sensitive you can even feel His comforting arms around you and hear him whispher "You are never alone".

I dedicate this post to my upcoming NUNSA executives for 2015/16 tenure. I must tell you that most of the things I learnt was after I had made the mistakes already and/or after I watched others. Let our mistakes help you to lead well and become better than us. Aluta Continue...in Spirited Leadership
